Platform

AOspam runs on two separate systems. One is the primary network server, a P4 2.8 ghz machine on Win XP Pro. This one handles the client side. Another machine runs the MySQL server/database and the Perl server. It is a relatively old machine, a P133 running Windows 98.

Why Win 98?

Shockingly, it ran the best on this older beast. Attempts at Linux and FreeBSD resulted in very poor performance. Simply put, KDE/Gnome = memory/video hogs. More than one version of Linux and even FreeBSD ran appallingly slow. Win 98 runs like a champ, so it was the best choice. Eventually a new system will be procured for the project, and it will be migrated to Linux most likely.
